Let’s talk about why I write romantasy, shall we?
I write in the enchanting realm of fantasy romance, where love and magic intertwine, offering an escape from the confines of the ordinary. The fantasy genre allows me to exist simultaneously in two realms: the comforting embrace of reality and the boundless expanse of the fantastical. The romance genre allows me to explore deep emotional connections, where characters find each other amidst magical worlds. It’s within this ethereal plane that I weave tales that blend the every day with the wondrous.
Fantasy romance is a vast tapestry of potential, my canvas for adventure and passion. Unhindered by the constraints of the mundane, love in these narratives can bloom in the most extraordinary ways. I enjoy crafting scenarios where gargoyles serenade mortals with tender whispers, or where a realm infused with magic becomes the stage for an epic romance. This genre is a gateway to my soul’s deepest imaginations, allowing me to bring to life stories that transcend the confines of our own world.
The art of blending validity with fantasy is a delicate dance. To maintain the suspension of disbelief, my worlds must be constructed as if reality, yet rich with the enchantment that only imagination can conjure. Each creature, each spell, every whimsical detail has its own set of rules that I must adhere. What are the courtship rituals of gnomes? How does the magic of Tilda’s teas and concoctions work, and what are their limitations? Along with traditional facets of writing, if a character wears shoes in one scene, they cannot vanish
into thin air in the next unless there is a reason. Consistency within this realm is a necessity; it is the skeleton upon which I mold the flesh of wonder and desire.
I always have ideas flowing, revealing star-crossed lovers destined to find each other amidst the cosmos. Inspiration strikes in the most unexpected moments: a song, a chance encounter in the woods, a mundane observation, or even the sharp pain of a bee’s sting can spark a whimsical character or a tale of love and fate.
My brain has a terrible habit of interrupting itself. Mid-project, new visions pop up like weeds, and I have to yank them out and plant them in my ‘future projects’ garden. Sometimes, those weeds surprise me by blooming into beautiful flowers, inspiring new paths and stories I hadn’t imagined.
As I venture into the uncharted territories of my imagination, I am both the creator and the servant to the narrative. Each word is a spell cast, each sentence a charm woven into the grand design of love’s unfolding. It is in this delicate balance of freedom and discipline that I find the essence of the fantasy romance novel
